Rainforest to Reef
ITINERARY

1-2
Sepilok
General Tour
It's time to see Borneo in style! Once you arrive in Sandakan you'll be met by your private guide and transferred to the Sepilok Nature Resort. You'll spend one night at the best property in the area - this isn’t a luxurious lodge, however, it is the best location for wildlife, and has unparalleled access to the Orangutan Sanctuary. The reserve consists of virgin primary lowland forest and mangrove trees, and you’ll be able to enjoy the spectacular views from the comfort of a hammock back at your boutique cabin.

3-4
Kinabatangan River
Wildlife
The next morning you'll make your way to the Orangutan Sanctuary and Sun Bear Centre where you'll learn about their rehabilitation. There's a chance to see both animals and find out more about the conservation of wildlife that the center provides. After lunch, it's on to the Sukau Rainforest Lodge by boat; keep your eyes peeled for Proboscis Monkey as you go. Once you've arrived and settled in, enjoy a candlelit dinner overlooking the riverbank.

Wake up bright and early for a 6 am river cruise up Kinabatangan River to Kelenanap Oxbow Lake to view more birds and wildlife, so have your camera handy. After breakfast, you'll take an educational tour of the lodge’s Hornbill Boardwalk with the in-house naturalist, before heading out on an afternoon river cruise. In the evening, why not unwind with a trip to the spa at the Rainforest Lodge?

5-7
Danum Valley
Wildlife
Today it's off to Danum Valley for a wildlife extravaganza. You'll be staying at Danum Valley Borneo Rainforest Lodge, in the largest protected area of lowland dipterocarp rainforest in Sabah, which covers a staggering 43,800 hectares. Once you've checked in, head out on a nature trail walk and take the canopy walkway to see the rainforest from 26 meters up. After dinner, it’s time to head out in an open-top vehicle in search of nocturnal critters as this is when the rainforest really comes alive.

The next day you'll trek through the jungle the Kadazandusun burial site, before heading on to View Point for a bird's eye view of the area. After lunch back at the lodge, head off for a fun tubing session down the Danum River, then in the evening you'll head out on another nocturnal wildlife walk.

On your last full day in the valley, you’ll trek to Fairy Falls and Serpent Falls and be wowed by their natural beauty. After lunch, you have the option of going on a guided trek along the Segama River or taking some time for yourself.

8-11
Gaya Island
Beach
Today you're off to Gaya Island. Once you land in Kota Kinabalu you'll catch a ferry over to the island where you'll check into the Gaya Island Resort - a slice of the Maldives in Borneo! You'll be staying in a Palm Villa which boasts a glass floor allowing you to view the sea directly beneath you. There's also a private balcony and your very own plunge pool with ocean views. If you can peel yourself away from your room, you'll enjoy a private seafood dinner on the jetty tonight.

The next few days on Gaya Island are yours to spend as you please. A trip to the Marine Ecology Research Centre is always worth it and while you're there not only can you learn about the ecosystems here, but you can also help by participating in replanting corals in the reef. There's also the option to go on a jungle trek, take a scuba diving lesson or simply snorkel amongst the coral reef and other marine life.  At the end of your trip, you'll be transferred back to Kota Kinabalu to catch your flight home.
