Your adventure through South China begins in the energetic metropolis of Shanghai. On arrival, a guide will meet you and take you to your hotel to settle in. In the evening take a stroll down to the Bund to catch a light show and then explore the city’s many bars and eateries. Enjoy a quiet start to the next day before heading out on a personalised sidecar tour in the afternoon. Choose where you go and enjoy whizzing around Shanghai's hotspots, before going out in the evening for the city’s delicious speciality – soup dumplings.

Zhangjiajie

Fly to Zhangjiajie and see the famous Avatar mountains, the inspiration behind the floating rocks in the movie Avatar. The next morning you'll wake up bright and early to see the mountains shrouded in morning mist, giving the impression the mountains are floating. You'll visit Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, and look out for rare wildlife including Chinese water deer and clouded leopards. Feeling brave? Cross the 100-metre glass bridge that traverses a 300-metre drop.

Fenghuang
General Tour
Next up visit Furongzhen, a village perched on a cliff with an impressive waterfall flowing out of it. Wander the charming streets and tuck into spicy Hunanese food for lunch. From here it's on to the trading town of Fenghuang, otherwise known as 'Phoenix Ancient Town' where wooden stilt houses line the river and fishermen row for the day's catch. Your evening will be spent enjoying a meal on the riverbanks. The following day is yours to spend as you please. Take a hike up a nearby peak and enjoy views across the river, enjoy a leisurely boat ride on a traditional rowboat or shop for local embroidery and silver.

Guilin

After a visit to the 3,000-year-old Hongjiang Old Town for lunch, head to Guilin. This vibrant city is full of little shops and coffee vendors, and we recommend an evening stroll around Ronghu Lake to see the Sun & Moon Pagodas. Be sure to try a bowl of traditional Guilin River Noodles!

Yangshuo
Activity and Adventure
All aboard! Take a boat from Guilin to Yangshuo along the scenic Li River, dotted with karst peaks along the winding route. Look out for some of the well-known formations, such as the Nine Horses Painted Hill. After a four-hour voyage, you'll be transferred to your hotel.

The next day hire a bike to explore the dramatic countryside. There is a range of easy-to-follow routes you can choose from. Make a day of it and combine your ride with a hike up one of the karst peaks or swim in one of the smaller rivers. If that sounds too much like hard work, go rafting in a traditional bamboo craft instead. Fill up that evening on a traditional dish of spicy beer fish.

Spend the next day at a cooking class and learn how to create traditional Guangxi flavours. In the evening watch the mesmerising show, Sanjie Liu, directed by famed director Zhang Yimou who produced the 2008 Olympics Opening Ceremony. The show itself involves 600 performers on the river with dramatic lighting and an impressive natural backdrop of twelve imposing karst peaks.

After a morning spent soaking up the beautiful scenery of Yangshuo, you'll board an afternoon train to Hong Kong. Spend the evening as you please, walk along the city harbour and catch the impressive light show.

Macau

Ready for a dazzling 24 hours in the 'Vegas of China'? You're off to Macau! But while it might be known for its gambling and glitz, this city has a fascinating past, and you would be forgiven for thinking you had stepped into the old town of Lisbon. Tour with a local guide who will show you the city’s historical and cultural highlights.

Visit the A-Ma Temple, overlooking Barra Square and seashore, before exploring the ruins of St. Paul, which have become a symbol of the city over the years. At Senado Square, you'll see the historic heart of Macau and experience the buzzing street stalls and municipal markets in action. Your tour will conclude at the Macau Tower, where you can gaze out over to the fishing community of Coloane in the south, and further to Hong Kong’s outlying islands.

Hong Kong Island
City
You'll finish up your trip back in Hong Kong. Spend the first evening as you like – why not go to the Ozone bar and enjoy a tipple at the highest bar in the world? Your final day has a city tour in store. Over the day you'll learn, and see, how this simple fishing village morphed into one of the world's most cosmopolitan cities. Start with a ride on the Star Ferry and see the city’s beloved Victoria Harbour, then take a ride on the world's steepest funicular railway, the Peak Tram. Enjoy the spectacular city skyline view from the top. From here it's on to the fishing village of Aberdeen, where you can see Hong Kong's famous 'floating community' and enjoy a short sampan ride. You'll finish up in the popular market town of Stanley where you can shop for a bargain.
