Barefoot Borneo
ITINERARY
1-4
Kuala Lumpur
City
Today is the day – your adventure begins! Once you touch down in Kuala Lumpur you’ll be met by a guide and taken to your hotel to settle. While in the capital city you’ll catch an unforgettable sunset from the incredible Petronas Towers and dine in the sky at a revolving restaurant. You’ll also enjoy a full day Kuala Lumpur food tour which will see you check out the local produce market before learning how to cook traditional recipes (and then eat them)!

5-7
Kinabatangan River
Wildlife
Kiss goodbye to Kuala Lumpur and say hello to the rainforest. Today you’re headed for Sukau Rainforest Lodge, nestled on the banks of Borneo’s Kinabatangan River. Once you’ve checked in you’ll take a walk along the river with a local guide to spot nocturnal wildlife before returning for dinner and a presentation on the river.

The next day you’ll wake up early for a cruise to Kelenanap oxbow lake for more wildlife spotting. After breakfast you’ll continue by private boat to Kinabatangan Wetlands Resort; after a local banana fritter, you’ll head out in search of Pygmy elephants, wild orangutans, and Proboscis monkeys.

The following day you’ll eat a packed breakfast while cruising the nearby ox-bow lake, Danau Pitas, before heading on to a local fishing village. In the afternoon you’ll take another cruise through mangroves taking in river life and village landscape. In the evening you’ll head out onto the river; the night sky is so dark that on a clear night you can see the outline of the Milky Way. You’ll also spot the magical lit up fauna thanks to thousands of fireflies.

8-9
Kota Kinabalu
Beach
Start the day with a cruise along the river and then out to sea to Sandakan City Jetty. There, you'll visit the world's largest orangutan rehabilitation center in Sepilok where you can see these magnificent creatures being fed. You’ll continue on to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre where you’ll get to learn about their plight and – if you like – adopt a bear. You’re then bound for the coastal city of Kota Kinabalu. You can spend your time in this friendly city as you please; indulging in the food scene, shopping at the bustling markets or checking out the burgeoning local arts and music scene.

10-13
Gaya Island
Beach
For your final few days in Borneo, you’ll head to the luxury five-star island resort of Gaya Island. Check out the plentiful marine life by snorkeling or take a stroll through the lush vegetation down to the turtle sanctuary. If you have relaxation on your mind chill out on the beach or head to the spa village for a well-earned massage.

On Day 13 you leave Borneo for home rejuvenated and with wonderful travel memories to cherish forever.
