1-2
Ulaanbaatar
City
When you land in Mongolia’s capital city, Ulaanbaatar, you'll be met by a guide and taken to your hotel, the Kempinski Khan Palace, to refresh after the flight. Then it's out on a city tour, where you'll see the Gandan Monastery, the largest Buddhist Monastery in the country that houses well over 500 monks. From here it's on to Sukhbaatar Square, the heart of Ulaanbaatar. This is where you’ll find the Genghis Khaan statue, Parliament house, the Palace of Culture, National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet and the Stock Exchange. Finish up your tour with a trip to the National Museum and where the exhibits guide you from the Neolithic era to the present day. You'll get to see everything from stone-age petroglyphs and intricate gold ornamentation to traditional ceremonial clothing.

On day three, you’ll leave city life behind and journey into the Mongolian countryside for a 4x4 jeep adventure. But first, you'll visit the Amarbayasgalant Monastery, one of the three largest Buddhist monastic centers in Mongolia. To better understand traditional Mongolian nomadic dwellings, a traditional ‘ger’, a type of felt tent, at the If Tour ger camp, will become your home for the next few days. Stargaze from your bed and fall asleep to the soundtrack of the Mongolian countryside.

Lake Khovsgol
Activity and Adventure
When you arrive at Lake Khovsgol, you will immediately understand why it's known as the dark blue pearl. The lake is set against a beautiful backdrop of mountains and deep pine forests, and horse and yak graze nearby. Suffice to say, Mongolia's second-largest and deepest freshwater lake is a scenic one. At 1,645 meters above sea level, it freezes from January through to April. After admiring the lake, you'll head out to visit a reindeer herding family and hike through the forest before settling into the Alag Tsar ger camp. The next day is yours to spend as you please, perhaps taking a boat across the lake, kayaking or horse riding.

After a morning spent relaxing on the banks of the lake, it's on to Mörön after lunch where you'll visit the local market and then head on to Uushigiin Uvur to check out the intriguing deer stones, ancient megaliths that are carved with symbols and flying deer. Afterward, head to your next hotel, the Harganat Eco Lodge.
