Zorbing and Rafting Aotearoa
Ready for a fun-filled family fortnight in New Zealand? Once you touch down in Auckland you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel, the SkyCity, where there is plenty of time to relax and refresh after your long journey. If you’re in the mood for exploring, check out Mission Bay where you can spend the first afternoon of your trip relaxing on the beach or tucking into something delicious beachside. The next day hops on a ferry and leaves Auckland Harbour for Waiheke Island. Here you can bring forest and ecosystem learning to live for kids, with an exciting zip lining adventure. Afterward, why not enjoy the local wineries, restaurants, and bars.
Activity and Adventure
It’s time to leave the city behind in favor of a road trip! After collecting your hire car, bundled in and head south through the surrounding farmland towards Rotorua. En route, stop off at Waitomo to give little legs a break and visit the famous glow worm caves. Here you’ll have time to head off on an exciting black water rafting adventure through the caves. Now that’s how you break up a car journey! Speaking of which, you might also like to stop off at the famous Hobbiton, the movie set for the Lord of the Rings film franchise. It’s sure to be a hit with Middle-earth fans of every age!
Your base in Rotorua will be the lakeside resort of Ramada Rotorua Marama; where you'll have a two-bedroom apartment set in luscious parkland, an outdoor pool, and a hot tub to relax in.
The next day you’ll head out to the Agrodome and meet some traditional kiwi farmers and their livestock. At the farm, you can see live sheep shearing and even have a chance to feed lambs, calves, emu, alpaca, and pigs. afterward up the adventure factor with a fun zorbing session - each of you will get inside a large inflatable ball and roll down grassy tracks! Got energy to burn? Board the Skyline Gondola for panoramic views of Lake Rotorua. At the top you might like to indulge in an activity or two; choose from the luge ride, Skyswing, and Skyvue 4D Motion theatre. Adults might prefer the Cableway Restaurant and Bar, for a spot of wine tasting.
Tongariro National Park
Keep heading south as you all make your way to Tongariro National Park for some family wilderness fun! You’ll spend the night here at the Chateau Tongariro and your time is yours to spend together as you like. While the area is home to a number of long, adventurous hikes you might want to pick a shorter one to make the most of your time. Speaking of which, head out just before sunset for the best chance to spot some famous New Zealand wildlife.
Today it’s time to make your way towards Wellington. Though it can take up to four hours, the route is scattered with towns perfect for stopping off for a spot of lunch and a flavor of small-town New Zealand life. In Wellington, drop off your car and focus on exploring the ‘coolest little capital in the world’. In the evening head to Zealandia wildlife sanctuary for a fun-filled night tour. As dusk falls, your chances of seeing the elusive kiwi rises. Eyes peeled!
Stay overnight at the stylish QT Museum Hotel, located right on the Wellington waterfront and next to Te Papa.
Another must-do in Wellington is a visit to Te Papa, New Zealand's excellent national museum. It’s a fabulous place to learn more about the cultural and natural history of the country, plus lots of the exhibits are interactive, making it a great choice for families. Later enjoy a behind the scenes tour of the famous Weta Workshop, which over the years has created props, costumes, make-up and special effects for some of your family's favorite blockbusters including Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, District 9 and Avatar.
Activity and Adventure
The final leg of your New Zealand adventure will be spent in Queenstown. Once your flight lands, collect your hire car and head to your accommodation, the Peppers Beacon. The first day is yours to spend as you like. You might like to while away the afternoon exploring the town at your own pace or perhaps you’d enjoy a trip up the gondola for stunning views of The Remarkables and Lake Wakatipu below. Alternatively, cruise on the TSS Earnslaw steamship across the lake to Walter Peak farm where you’ll find a variety of activities for all ages.
The next day enjoys a scenic flight across the mountains and along to the west coast; look out for the ancient glaciers and forests before landing at the iconic Milford Sound. Here, take a cruise along the pristine waterway and enjoy the commentary as you go. You’ll wrap up your trip with one full day left to explore Queenstown at your own leisure. Why not take a ride on the Shotover Jet along the famous Shotover River, whizz through the treetop canopy on a ziplining excursion or discover old gold mining towns on an off-road adventure? Alternatively, you might like to explore the lake by kayak, go mountain bike riding or head off on a family hike. On day 13, make your way to the airport for your flight back home.
