Run with the Wild
ITINERARY
1-3
Iguaçu Falls
Activity & Adventure
You'll fly to Cataratas del Iguaçu International Airport overnight, after which you may well be wary – but the excitement of what's to come will certainly override any jet lag you may experience. And there will be ample opportunity to stretch your legs as you explore your new surroundings and settle into the Loi Suites Hotel – whose comfortable beds and luxurious surroundings will have you fit and raring to go in no time.

The trip takes on a whole new dimension on day 3 when you explore the Iguaçu National Park and the Argentine Falls in particular – complete with speedboat ride underneath the falls itself. The day's excursion takes on a tour of the vast jungle, too, so those who favor dry land won't miss out on the experience.

This "Great Adventure Tour" aims to combine everything that makes the national park great in one visit. The drive-in by a specially designed truck allows you the best possible panoramic views of the natural beauty that the park boasts in spades. After the truck pulls up at the Puerto Macuco Base, you'll board your next mode of transport: a motorboat. Here, you'll travel some six kilometers through the river canyon, no doubt spotting all manner of wildlife and traversing rapids along the way (don't worry, your knowledgeable guides know these like the backs of their hands). On the other side of the rapids, there's a chance to catch your breath and take in some of the area's natural beauty before approaching the San Martin Falls, the largest waterfall any motorboat can safely approach. This is followed by a further truck trip back through the lower end of the jungle trails.

4-6
Pantanal
Wildlife
On Day 4, you'll have a half-day trip to the Brazilian Falls and nearby bird park, which is a fitting end to this portion of your adventure, as you take to the skies yourself – landing in Pantanal.

On waking in the Rio Mutum Hotel, you'll doubtless be eager to explore your new surroundings. Well, you're in luck: after breakfast, a horseback trail riding through the woods is on offer, up to the edge of the Sia Mariana bay. Here, a wealth of birds, animals, and reptiles can be seen year-round. Lunch is laid on at the lodge, after which you can embark on a boat ride for a photographic safari in the pristine Mutum River – where giant otters, stingrays and huge schools of smaller fish can all be spotted (and snapped). After returning to the lodge for dinner, there's a nocturnal safari where animals who prefer the nighttime can be spotted by jeep in the surrounding area.

Your second day in Pantanal allows more nature spotting, with an ecological walk through the jungle and open fields to observe the wildlife – with a strong focus on the varied birds that inhabit the area. After lunch, a boat trip down the Mutum River to Sia Mariana Bay and Chacorore Bay provides some stunning scenery, and there's a chance to get up close and personal with some of the wildlife, including piranha fishing (during the summer) and night-time cayman feeding.

7-9
Rio de Janeiro
City
On Day 7, you'll wave goodbye to the jungle and head to the big city, Rio de Janeiro, where you'll check into your superior room at the Sofitel Ipanema and marvel at the view over the city.

Your first full day in Rio de Janeiro begins with a tour of the Corcovado Mountain, one of Rio's top attractions. From the hotel, you'll be taken along the scenic beaches of Rio and the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas (lagoon) before arriving at the national park, where a Swiss cogwheel train carries you up the mountain – and to the base of the famous Christ the Redeemer statue. The view from this vantage point is unforgettable. The afternoon comprises a trip to the famous Sugarloaf Mountain which, along with Christ the Redeemer, is one of Brazil's most famous landmarks.

The following day provides a different perspective on Rio, one that reveals a true paradise inside the city itself. The tour takes in two of the city's wild beaches, including time for diving and swimming, and a chance to paddle across to an ecological sanctuary. A tour of Barra de Guaratiba demonstrates exactly why the neighborhood is so renowned for its seafood, and in the afternoon a trip to Prainha beach – a surfer's paradise – features rowing and paddling activities as well as snacks and drinks.
