A Country Reborn
ITINERARY
1-4
Siem Reap
City
On day one, you’ll be giddy with excitement and telling Facebook you’re at the airport. You’ll fly to Siem Reap via Bangkok, spending your time here exploring the ancient city of Angkor Thom, seeing the temples at the famous Angkor Wat in detail and visiting rural villages where you'll learn about ancient customs. You’ll go off the usual tourist path and see temples many people don’t see. You’ll also get to see the Phare circus, founded by ex-refugees from Battambang. Their performances are a mix of modern and traditional theatre and is a delightful insight into the Cambodian art scene.

Before you leave the village, the local monks will give you a blessing, wishing you good luck and success. In the afternoon, say goodbye to Siem Reap and head to Battambang, Cambodia’s second largest city, once off-limits to travellers. Spend your time learning about the city’s artistic heritage, praying with monks, and visiting a village known for its many Khmer heritage houses built a thousand years ago.
