The afternoon will be spent exploring Lima by bike. A diverse Peruvian landscape of canyons, ravines, tunnels, bridges, jungle, and highlands will rush past your window. At each stop, vendors board the train with snacks of corn, cheesy potatoes, and local drinks. In the early afternoon, you'll arrive in Huancavelica and enjoy a tour of the city to visit temples, hot springs, and the abandoned Santa Barbara mining complex before settling into the Hotel Presidente Huancavelica.

5-6
Ayacucho
General Tour
Today you'll travel by road to Ayacucho. The seven-hour journey will be broken up with stops at Choclococha and Azulcocha. Don’t forget to look out for llamas along the way! Check in to the Hotel Sevilla Ayacucho and the next day treat yourself to a well-earned breather and spend your time as you please. Either explore Ayacucho by yourself or if you'd prefer, hop on one of the optional tours. You may choose to tour the Wari Archaeological Complex, the Pampa de Ayacucho and the artisanal village of Quinua on an historical tour; or take a full day optional trip to Huancaraylla - a hidden wonder in the corner of Ayacucho. This river is made up of small turquoise and emerald green pools, where you can spend the day exploring and have lunch with a local family.

7
Andahuaylas
General Tour
It's time to hit the road again, this time with a six-hour drive along a lesser-traveled route. Watch the scenery change as you trundle by and pampas grasses are swapped for wide-open valleys. Your journey will be broken up with a visit to an artisanal sugar cane distillery for a delicious tasting before arriving at La Mansion Casa Hotel in Andahuaylas.

8
Capuliyoc
Activity and Adventure
Today it's on to Capuliyoc, with a visit to Pacucha Lake and the ruins of Sondor along the way. On arrival, you'll pitch up and spend your first night under canvas.

9
Playa Rosalina
Activity and Adventure
Today is the first day of your five-day hike. This epic trek will send you off the beaten track and into the heart of the Peruvian Andes. You'll kick off with a walk along Capuliyoc, with views of the Apurimac Canyon and the trail that lies ahead. 10
Choquequirao

After breakfast, you'll cross a suspension bridge and then it's time for an uphill walk to Marampata, where you'll enjoy a lunch in a meadow. The afternoon hike ascends a steep trail as you start to appreciate the Apurimac Canyon from above. The trail becomes more forgiving as you approach the hanging valley where the site of Choquequirao is found. Set up camp near the site - enjoy the one off experience of camping under the stars right next to an ancient Incan relic!

11
Santa Rosa Baja
Activity and Adventure
Today has an exceptionally beautiful hike in store as you'll have time to explore Choquequirao, a fascinating ruin often described as a mini Machu Picchu. But thanks to the challenging hike required to get here, it is much quieter than its famous counterpart. You'll have plenty of time to explore the ruins including a delicious lunch nearby. Keep a lookout for condors soaring over the deep canyon.

12
Coca Masana
Activity and Adventure
Today you will start your descent down the Apurimac Valley. It's a steep and slow journey, but along the way, you'll be treated to some striking views out across the river valley. From here it's up to Chiquiska for some rest and a spot of lunch, before continuing to the small village of Coca Masana, with its typical Andean houses and rural atmosphere.

13-14
Cuzco
Activity and Adventure
Wake up early for breakfast – today is the last day of the hike. It’s back to Capuliyoc for its excellent lookout point and fine weather. Once you reach the area and have had a chance to explore, you'll board a bus back to Cuzco and El Mercado hotel where your feet will enjoy a well-earned rest.

Spend the next morning on a half day walking tour of the city's main sites. Visit the San Cristobal viewpoint and go back in time at the Sacsayhuaman Archaeological Site and the Qenqo Amphitheatre. From here it's on to the San Blas area where you'll spend time exploring the winding network of streets, pretty whitewashed houses and local crafts. The area is known for its resident artists who work with stone, wood, silver and ceramics. Sacred Valley
General Tour
It's an exciting day today as you're off to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, staying at Casa Andina Premium Valle Sagrado. The tour starts at Chinchero, a traditional Andean village with bags of character and historic buildings. Visit the colonial church and marvel at its extensive collection of paintings from the Cuzco School of Art. From here it's on to the Maras Salt pans where you'll get to see an expanse of ancient salt terraces gleaming in the sun.

Continue to the ancient Moray Terrace, which experts think may have been a gigantic agricultural laboratory, an astronomical observatory or a place of worship – or maybe all three! Your trip finishes up at the Inca fortress and citadel of Ollantaytambo. Built before the Spaniards arrived, it was created to guard the entrance to this part of the valley and protect it from the tribes of the jungle lowlands.

17-19
Cuzco
Activity and Adventure
It's time to board a bus back to Machu Picchu, the best-known archaeological site on the continent. Part of the ancient city's appeal is that despite being discovered over a hundred years ago, archaeologists remain mystified about its purpose. The ancient network of palaces, plazas, and homes may have been built as a military center, rulers retreat or a ceremonial site.

Your tour guide will talk you through the history and various uses of the temples and palaces. The ruins are the size of a village, so you'll have plenty of time to explore and soak up the ancient atmosphere. After your morning at Machu Picchu, you'll enjoy lunch before heading to Aguas Calientes where you will have time to explore before driving to Cuzco and El Mercado Hotel.

The remainder of your time in Cuzco is yours to spend as you please, but if you like, you can join an optional tour. Choose from a full day Three Mountains Trek, a half-day of cultural trekking, or a half-day at Condor Canyon.
