  • Drive on the right-hand side of the road.

  • Headlights should be turned on at night and in the conditions of the poor visibility caused by bad weather.

  • Children under 12 years old are not allowed to sit in the front passenger seat.

  • It is required for occupants in the front seat to wear seat belts.

  • You are only allowed to use a mobile phone while driving with a hands-free set.

  • You are not permitted to cross the solid white line in the middle of the road.

  • Drunk driving is strictly forbidden when driving in Armenia.

SPEED LIMITS

These are the standard legal speed limits in Armenia for a car without a trailer. Variations from the speed limit will be signposted.

 

Within city limits                                   60 km/h (37 mph)

Outside city limits                                 90 km/h (56 mph)

Motorways                                             110 km/h (68 mph)

Residential areas                                  20 km/h (12 mph)

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING ALONG

  • International Driver’s Permit (IDP

  • Insurance documents

  • You are required to have a warning triangle, first aid kit, and fire extinguisher with you in the car.

  • A road map of Armenia is useful in case you’re in an area without cell phone service.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Winter tires will be needed during the winter months and the use of snow chains could be needed if you are traveling in mountainous roads.

  • Be cautious when traveling through towns at night.

  • Drive with extra care as some roads are in poor condition.

  • The far-right lane can be used for parking.

  • An SUV might be needed if you are planning on driving in more remote parts of the country.
